It’s good to be self-sufficient, but sometimes you have to rely on others. When my mom was ill and was unsteady walking, it was frustrating for all of us when she would do things like sneak off and try to climb the stairs with an armload of laundry. We were afraid she would crash and knock her head open - it was a good possibility. 

Today I’m goofy on pain medications and not too steady on crutches, and yet my first instinct is to try to get around on my own. At least we know where I came from…
